"Too Cold Out There Without You" DOCUMENTARY SCREENING
3:00pm - State Theatre
Part of the College Town Film Festival (http://collegetownfilmfestival.com/), this documentary traces one story of a transgendered man and his path through transition. The film will be followed by a Q+A with Rev. Christopher Fike and his daughter.
Synopsis:
When the Rev. Christopher Fike was ordained in the Episcopal Church, he was a straight, married mother of two adorable children. Five years later he had completed his transition and now identifies as a man. Chris’s decision to change genders ignited tensions in both his family and in a Church still reeling in the aftermath of its consecration of Bishop V. Gene Robinson, the world’s first openly gay bishop.
Too Cold Out There Without You is a post-transition story that looks beyond the act of transitioning and instead focuses on the transformation that takes place in Chris’s relationships with those closest to him. Chris’s family struggled with their response to his gender change, and Chris’s career in the Church was severely derailed by his transition. Forced to take a leave of absence, Chris found himself angry, unemployed and alienated from his family and an institution he loved.
As Chris put his life back in order, he discovered his experience transitioning had deepened his ability to help others who have marginalized by society. Beyond his work as a priest and a social worker, Chris also had to focus on helping his daughter with bipolar disorder and his son with Asperger's syndrome work with their diagnoses to find happy and productive paths through their teen years. Chris’s journey looks at what it takes for people to stay connected and shows how our lives can be better together despite unexpected, difficult turns life sometimes takes.

"ScottChurch's DRAG" DOCUMENTARY SCREENING
7:00pm - HUB Robeson Center Auditorium
Speakers: Scott Church (Award-winning Photographer) and Michael Donati (Documentary Filmaker)
Award-winning glamour photographer Scott Church has made a twenty-year career photographing some of the world's most beautiful models. But when he decides to replace women with drag performers, his unsuspecting Pennsylvania hometown is given an unforgettable lesson in the gender bending art form. Award-winning glamour photographer Scott Church has been capturing beauty for over twenty years. Published by the likes of Maxim and Playboy, he has made a successful career photographing some of the world's most beautiful women. Combining a unique style and daring approach to the craft, he has earned consistent praise and a legion of devoted fans from around the world. But when he decides to replace his trademark subject matter for a photography study on drag performers, eyebrows are raised almost instantly. Setting out to prove that these artists and performers are among us every day, Church executes a series of colorful photographs which take the entertainers out of their traditional club environments and places them into real life situations. From grocery stores to gas stations, the outrageous experiment becomes a quick lesson in the gender bending art form for his unsuspecting Pennsylvania hometown. Through candid interviews along the way, the performers themselves speak up about their life in drag and how the taboo format is not only harmless entertainment but an important form of self expression. Pictures are worth a thousand words, but the stories behind them are worth even more. Enlightening, daring, hilarious and at times genuinely moving, the film is the end result of Church's yearlong effort to shed light on an often misunderstood subject.

"How to Survive A Plague" DOCUMENTARY SCREENING

Speaker: Peter Staley, activist featured in the film
“How to Survive a Plague” is the story of two coalitions—ACT UP and TAG (Treatment Action Group)—whose activism and innovation turned AIDS from a death sentence into a manageable condition. Despite having no scientific training, these self-made activists infiltrated the pharmaceutical industry and helped identify promising new drugs, moving them from experimental trials to patients in record time. With unfettered access to a treasure trove of never-before-seen archival footage from the 1980s and '90s, filmmaker David France puts the viewer smack in the middle of the controversial actions, the heated meetings, the heartbreaking failures, and the exultant breakthroughs of heroes in the making.
